Fintech Venture Investor and Former Bank Executive
Anju Patwardhan is a globally experienced Fintech venture investor, board director, and bank executive. She has lived and worked in Singapore, San Francisco, and India. Anju is a Senior Accredited Board Director from the Singapore Institute of Directors. She has been on the boards of banks and regulated financial institutions in Asia (Singapore and Thailand), the US, the UK, Europe, and Saudi Arabia since 2011. In addition to the Upgrade board, she serves as an Independent Board Director on the boards of Gulf International Bank in Saudi Arabia, Xapo Bank in Europe, and AWARE in Singapore. She is also on the Global Advisory Council of Stanford University's Distinguished Careers Institute. Anju was a Managing Director at CreditEase for its global Fintech Investment Fund for over eight years. The fund has over $1 billion in AUM, and she was a member of the Investment Committee. Anju worked in banking for over two decades with Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in senior leadership roles, including Global Chief Innovation Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Risk Officer, and Digital Banking Head. She was a member of SCB's global executive leadership team, a member of the Global Technology & Operations Management Group, and a member of the Global Risk Management Group. She is a globally recognized and awarded fintech thought leader and influencer. She is a member of the World Economic Forum steering committee on 'Disruptive Innovation in Financial Services' and has been a member of its Global Future Council on Blockchain. She is also a Distinguished Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Banking and Finance (Risk Management), Singapore's highest financial services industry accolade. Anju is an alumna of IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore and was a Fulbright Fellow and Visiting Scholar at Stanford University in 2016. Her work focused on using technology to support financial inclusion. She is also a Bellagio Center Alumni.
